Fall is here! At least for most of us. And school starting up means fall ministry is getting off the ground too! What steps can you take to get ready for the new school year?

I’d always encourage you to do these three things:

Text students

You know the ones. The ones who have been gone all summer on family vacations and summer camps that you didn’t host. No problem. You haven’t seen them all summer. So it’s time to reengage! Let those students know that you miss them! You can’t wait to see them back at youth group. Let them know times and dates and tell them you’re excited to see them real soon!

Extra win: ask for their sports and school schedule so you can plan to be at their events during the school year!

Email parents

You’ve got a lot of dates in mind I’m sure. Fall retreats. Fall events. Teaching calendars. Go ahead and put that into an email and send it off to parents. It doesn’t need to be a lot of text about why you’re doing this and that. You can save that for later.

Think of this as a “Save the Date” email. When do small groups start back up? Why is the fall retreat deposit due? Is there a kick off party they need to know about? Parent meeting??

Put it all in an email and send it out!

Train leaders

You may have seen them every week since school got out. You may not have seen them since May 1st. Either way, you need to get your leaders on board for the fall. It’s a great time to host a training (like the National Day of Volunteer Training). Let leaders know what your goals are for the new year. Help them with any questions they have. Make sure they’re well informed. When your leaders know what’s going on, they can help pass on the information to parents and students alike!

Anything I missed?

Let me know and have a great fall!
