Weekend Teaching Series: A Piece of My Mind (2 of 4)

Sermon in a Sentence: 4 Characteristics of Biblical Community

Service Length: 83 minutes

Understandable Message: This weekend Justin and I joined forces to talk about what it means to have Christ-centered friendships and communities. The 4 points we chose to communicate Biblical community were that it is a place of safety, rest, accountability, and a place to be pushed to know and express Christ. We wanted students to walk away knowing that our message wasn’t just an invitation into a Biblical community, but a challenge to be an active member of one. For example, if you want a safe person to talk to, you need to be a safe person to talk to as well.

Element of Fun/Positive Environment: This weekend we played a game called Tweetable Tweets. In the game, we have a tweet from a celebrity with the ending blacked out and we gave the students three choices of what it could be. It was so dang fun! Since it was our summer intern’s last weekend, we had him run it and he did so well! Like last week, we did more prize videos (similar to those in “Wheel of Fortune”). It is a really fun bit that landed with the students. This week we ended with the “Mystery Box.” It could have had an iTunes card or a pack of C-Batteries. Only one way to find out what is inside…

Music Playlist: Lift Him Up, Divine and Holy, All I Am, and God I Look to You

Favorite Moment: It was 2 of our summer interns’ last weekend. It was awesome to see what great youth pastors they have become in such a short amount of time. Both of them did big things this summer and left an impact in students’ lives and on our ministry. It will be tough to say goodbye!
