Pretty cool story in the Winston-Salem Journal about some students in a youth group that returned from a mission trip totally inspired. Sounds like the purpose of ministry is working well in this church. Here’s a clip:

“We’re not in this world a lot,” Lindsay said. “We’re in these private-school bubbles.”

They returned inspired. They wanted to do something locally like what they had seen at Glide Memorial.

So they started Love Thy Neighbor ministry. With the help of church volunteers and other community activists, they started holding “block parties” at their church.

The parties were designed to provide a meal and necessities such as toiletries to poor people.

The first block party was held in October of last year. At first, they didn’t know what to expect from their efforts.

“We were wondering if we would get even five people,” Lindsay said.

Instead, about 80 people showed up.
