Wednesday Teaching Series: One Night – Jesus is the Light

Sermon in a Sentence: Jesus came to show us the light. Step into it. Only Jesus can show you true life.
Service Length: 60 minutes

Understandable Message: One Nights are services we put on 3 times a year where we encourage our students to bring their friends who do not go to church. Our church has what we call “One-Life” where everyone in our church should have someone they are intentionally investing into who does not know Jesus. We do this with our students. One Nights are nights were we encourage our students to bring their one-life to One Night. They are big, loud crazy and the Gospel is preached. Chris Avery brought a great and simple message about how Jesus is the light to show us how to truly live. How we answer the question, “Jesus is _______” is really important.

Element of Fun/Positive Environment: We did not do a game within our service because we wanted to save some time. Before service out on the patio we had an “anticipation stage” where I went out with a mic and lead students in Minute To Win It games for $5 Starbucks gift cards. It was a fun way to get some laughter and fun before services. Also, after service for One Night’s we usually have a big event. This particular night we had the amazing Jared Hall (Illusionist/Comedian) and he killed it! Our students were so bought in and had a great time. I would highly recommend him if you can get him.

Music Playlist: Where You Are, What A Beautiful Name

Favorite Moment: Had to be praying with students to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There is nothing better than that!

Hey Justin, I would love to know how you juggle the Jr and Sr high. Do you have them on separate nights? We are in the process of rethinking our program as we have Jr and Sr high together right now. We are wanting to split them but I want to make it great.

We do a bit of a hybrid. We are together for the first half of service (welcome, game, announcements, worship) and then we split up for teaching. High school stays in our main room and jr high goes to another room where we are in the same series and topic but just taught to their level.

I feel like its working for us and we get the critical mass of everyone in the room.
