There are days when you are not going to feel like doing what you once believed God has called you to do. We all have those days! But it’s how you respond to your feelings that makes all the difference. Before throwing in the towel, do yourself a favor and do a few things first, know that God has a plan, ask yourself why you are throwing in the towel, be sure to talk to someone in leadership and talk to God.

You know, I sometime question if God still has a calling for me where I am. Then I’m reminded how He talks so often about faithfulness in His word. For example, Proverbs 3:3 says, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” And 2 Chronicles 19:9, “He gave them these orders: ’You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord.’” Until He opens another door for you or closes the door you are in, He wants you right where you are. So remain faithful, knowing He has a plan.

Then ask yourself, “Why am I throwing in the towel?” Is it because of difficulties? James 1:3-4 says, “Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” God will work all things together for the good, just stick it out and learn from it. He can grow you through difficult times. Is it because of a lack of passion? Learn more, get refreshed in God’s presence and by learning more about the field you are in. Surround yourself with others in the same field and become allies. Team up and exchange ideas!

If you know God has a plan and have asked yourself why are you throwing in the towel and are still thinking about throwing it in, then you should talk to someone in leadership you can trust, someone who is filled with the spirit who will listen compassionately and give you godly advice. Ask that person to pray with you but don’t let that replace your quiet time alone with God. Go home and talk to God, ask for His guidance and listen to what He has to say.

Remember, we have all been there and wanted to throw in the towel at one time or another but don’t react on those feeling so quickly, doing that will leave you so confused and worn out. Instead, know that God has a plan, ask yourself why you are throwing in the towel, be sure to talk to someone in leadership and talk to God.

What about you? Tell us about a time you have wanted to throw in the towel and what lead you to remain faithful.
