So I just got from vacation. I took almost 3 weeks off. I am not going to lie, it was pretty amazing. I never have done anything like that before in ministry and I was really challenged by my friend Derry Prenkert in a podcast I did with him about taking a longer time off (you can listen to that episode HERE).
One week I went to the sleepy beach town of Carlsbad, CA, where we stayed on the beach with my wife and baby boy. then I went to the National Youth Workers Convention with the DYM crew and that was awesome as always. Then I stayed home for a week as we didn’t have service the Wednesday night of Thanksgiving so I took the whole week off.
But gladly/sadly I am back this week and I am wanting to meet with our leaders as we enter into the busy holiday season. For me personally, I try to challenge myself to meet with all my leaders for a one-on-one once every 6 weeks. I know, that is a lot. But for me, I value that time. I enjoy my leaders company and I want to make sure they are doing ok, they are heard and they are doing what they need to be doing.
I am showing you an excerpt from an email I sent out this week to our high school leaders. I ALWAYS ask the same three questions when we meet and it is amazing to hear the insight that comes from them. I will be honest though, most of the time we don’t go through all of them because I want to make sure our leaders know I care about THEM AS A PERSON before them as a leader. I love hearing what God is doing in them and through them.
I think these 3 easy and simple questions should be a part of everyone’s lists as they meet with leaders. It has brought so much fruit for our ministry and community to our leaders. I thought I would share with you all:
Hey high school leaders.
As much as I love all of our leaders, you have a the more special place in my heart since you serve high schoolers. I am back from my vacation and I’m not going to lie, it was awesome. It was a well needed break for me and my family but I am back and ready to roll!I would love to get together with you in the next few weeks before Christmas in order to sit down with you and ask you three questions:
- How are you doing?
- How are you doing as a leader in CCV Students?
- How can I help you do what you do better?
As an introvert, I highly value time with our leaders. Wednesday nights are awesome, but crazy. There is no REAL time to sit down and chat. I would love to do that with you.
